Philosophers During the Golden Age

Philosophers
After the war the people in Athens, began to control the world around them. Those people who decided to seek the truth are called philosophers. Philosophers are great thinkers who are determined to seek the truth no matter what. Philosophers believed:

· The universe is put together in an orderly way and is subject to absolute and unchanging laws.
· People can understand these laws through logic and reason.

Three philosophers came after the Peloponnesian War their names were. Socrates 470-399 bc., Plato 427-347 bc., and Aristotle 384-322 bc. . Socrates encouraged his students to examine their beliefs. When Socrates was 70 years old, he was put on trial for corrupting the youth of Athens and neglecting the city’s gods. Plato was a wrestler and a poet before the became a philosopher. He founded a school in Athens and it lasted 900 years. He also wrote a book about his vision of a perfectly govern city. It was called the republic. Aristotle attended Plato’s school and was one of his brightest students. He styled there until Plato’s death. He opened his own school that rivaled Plato’s.
